Family heritage：Family heritage is a neutralized concept that simply outlines the physical, spiritual, and cultural influences that families bring to future generations.This influence can bring about very distinct differences in family identity, symbols, personality and other aspects for the offspring.
Post-memory：Post-memory is a space of memory where emotions and reactions are passed down from generation to generation. Turning a story or another person’s memory into a symbol while engraving it in your own memory. Constant revision of the memory results in a “recognized” collective memory. In family memory, post-memory refers to how future generations inherit the memories of their grandparents. This memory transfer can be realized through photographs, oral narratives, and other forms that explore the connection of future generations to past experiences.
1.2.Research topic
How to build a common family imaginary allows contemporary Chinese youth to rethink their connection to the family
I hope to gain the recognition of family symbols among contemporary Chinese young people, and through these symbols to build a virtual family, which is an “imagined community”. Through this community, the public will be able to see the part that belongs to their private memory and the part that belongs to their collective memory, which will prompt them to rethink the relationship between themselves and their families. This can lead them to rethink their relationship with the family, or to discover the possibility of reconciliation with the family, or ways of untying the family.
