Funding and sponsorship of artists with similar subject matter

1.Xiaogang Zhang

He is a well-known contemporary Chinese artist whose main source of funding relies on galleries and auction houses to sell his artworks.

He captures a sensitive period in China, the ‘Cultural Revolution’, a traumatic and sensitive part of China’s contemporary history. This has enabled him to gain favour with collectors from all over the world, exposing the pain and numbness of families during the Cultural Revolution.

His problem is that the market and auctions are unstable and will lose a stable source of funding once the work does not match the aesthetics of the times.

2.Resident projects and Government-specific funds

The Chinese government and private property developers regularly undertake resident art projects and special art funding in cultural tourism cities or development areas in order to preserve specific cultural heritage. (Family culture is among them)
