This gave me an idea of how European familists use internet ethnography for family history research. These studies provided me with: how to use data for family history exploration. I can refer to the ‘buffet approach’ to family history research mentioned in this paper, where a significant event for the family, such as a birth, a death or a migration, serves as a starting point for researching family history over time and space. This would greatly reduce the complexity of the information.

This article highlights how quickly identities can be recognised in digital communities and how digital identities can be used to find their own organisations. I was very interested in the article’s reference to the same person having many completely different digital identities to fit into different communities. What this has helped me in my research on family history is that I can identify specific people in the family through their identities in different scenarios in order to confirm their overall identification with the family’s sense of identity. For example, my brother has the status of being the eldest son in the family, while he does have the status of being a lower level employee in the family business. He, on the other hand, refers more to his independent identity outside of the family.

This paper mentions the influence of family on children, which has helped me in my research on the influence of family on the life choices of individuals, especially women and children.

This article helped me mostly because I know how the collective sense of family drives the individual’s sense of honour. This helps in making a digital genealogy or family locality research.

This is a graphical result for researching family trees. Different families produce different family trees, and it is worthwhile to refer to such data visualisations.
